On Thursday afternoon, Rangers announced that Cammy Palmer had signed a contract extension.
The deal will keep the 19-year-old at Ibrox until at least the summer of 2021.
Palmer captained the Reserve team to league success under Graeme Murty last season.
In fact, this news comes just 24 hours after the club confirmed they would not be competing in the SPFL Reserve League during the 2019/20 season.
It’s good to see that despite the chaotic nature of the transfer market, the club isn’t forgetting about the longer term picture.
There has been a lot of time and money invested in the youth structure in recent years. The positive effects of that were there for all to see last term.

It’s hoped that in the years to come, more and more youngsters will follow in the footsteps of Ross McCrorie. With players like Dapo Mebude, Stephen Kelly and Serge Atakayi making first-team debuts last season, there’s evidence that if you impress further down the club, opportunities will come your way.
For Palmer, breaking into the senior squad is the next step. Midfield is probably the most congested area of the squad right now, but this new deal offers some security for the teenager.
It’s a short extension, but even so, the club is showing faith in its own talent.
Plenty of Bears were delighted when the news was officially announced via the club’s Twitter account. Here’s a selection of reactions:
