Rangers fans have expressed their disappointment after a club tweet raised hopes that Ianis Hagi had signed a permanent deal with the club.

On Wednesday afternoon, ahead of the second leg Europa League Round of 32 clash against Braga, an announcement was made via the Rangers FC Twitter account and website.

It related to a new long-term deal with Clarity Sports as the Official Team Travel Supplier [Rangers.co.uk].

There’s not anything especially disappointing about that in itself, but the way the announcement was presented got many fans’ hopes up.

Hagi was pictured with a Rangers shirt which read ‘Clarity 2023’ on the back.

Given that the 21-year-old is currently on loan from Genk with the Gers holding an exclusive option to buy, though, many briefly thought he’d penned a three-year deal.

Here’s a selection of reactions from Twitter:

Hagi may still be a loan player for the time being, but he’s certainly pulling his weight in Light Blue.

After both kickstarting and completing a dramatic comeback in the first leg against Braga, his sublime assist in the second helped the Gers to book a place in the last 16 of the Europa League.

This may not have been the signing announcement some thought it was, but if his current form continues, it’ll surely be only a matter of time before the club snaps him up.
