Rangers fans delighted at Hodson departure

Rangers supporters are pleased with Lee Hodson’s departure from the squad after signing on loan for St Mirren.

Mark Warburton signed the Northern Irish international a couple of years ago back in 2016. However, despite several opportunities including in high-profile games, the full-back failed to impress.

Steven Gerrard has been looking to shift whatever deadwood he can from the squad over the summer. It’s since been apparent that he puts Hodson in that category, who hasn’t made a single appearance under the new manager.

Yet, the defender looked set for a reprieve against Maribor. However, despite Borna Barisic’s unavailability, Gerrard instead turned to Andy Halliday to cover at left-back.

Subsequently, this has ultimately led to 26-year-old Hodson leaving to join Alan Stubbs’ Buddies.

Supporters have since been speaking on Twitter about the deal:

Ironically, Hodson has always been professional at Rangers. He hasn’t put int he quality of displays supporters would’ve liked, but his attitude was never in question.

However, it shouldn’t affect the squad depth too much. Rangers have Barisic, Jon Flanagan, and Andy Halliday all available to slot in at left-back. Therefore, losing Hodson isn’t a blow.
