With two key Rangers players suspended, does this mean a return to the team for Lee Hodson against Maribor?
Borna Barisic is unable to play for Rangers in Europa League qualifying after turning out for Osijek in rounds one and two. However, Jon Flanagan joins him on the ineligible list through suspension for the second-leg in Slovenia.
Rangers have a strong 3-1 lead to take over to Maribor, but is there now only one man they can turn to when filling the left-back berth?
Northern Irish international Hodson has never been a fan-favourite at Ibrox. Supporters often called for the full-back’s removal from the squad after consistently poor performances.
The arrival of both Barisic and Flanagan in the summer seemed to spell an end for Hodson’s time in Govan. However, it looks as though he could be set for an unexpected reprieve on Thursday night.
The 26-year-old signed for the club under Mark Warburton back in 2016 from MK Dons. Hodson also has big-game experience after turning out in multiple Old Firm games for the club.
It’s not an ideal situation for Steven Gerrard ahead of what will be a tough night in Slovenia. However, if Hodson is to have any form of Rangers future, this could be his only chance to make an impression.
