Rangers and Celtic are both monitoring the situation involving Ross Stewart at Sunderland closely as his contract ticks down at the Stadium of Light.
The 26-year-old Scotland international striker is in the final year of his contract at the Championship club and is yet to sign an extension as his contract enters its final months.

Both Rangers and Celtic will be free to negotiate terms with Ross Stewart in January and given his homegrown status and the lack of transfer fee the forward represents an interesting proposition for both clubs.
A former Parkhead youth, the ex-Ross County striker has been linked to both sides by Football League World who claim that the Black Cats are ready to sell Stewart in January if he does not agree a new deal.
The report claims that Sunderland have already made Ross Stewart an offer to become the highest-paid player in the squad but if he doesn’t sign it they will listen to offers from Rangers and Celtic in January.
Rangers and Celtic linked with Ross Stewart move
Signing for a reported £450k from Ross County in January 2021, Ross Stewart has scored an impressive 34 goals in 72 games for Sunderland, including five in seven this season.
Rangers fans may remember Ross Stewart from his time at Ross County where the lanky striker impressed during a stint in the Scottish Premiership.
The forward also famously scored a goal which helped to incite a riot outside Parkhead when he netted for the Staggies in a 2-0 Parkhead League Cup win in November 2020.
Rangers will also potentially soon be in need of reinforcements in the striking position with Alfredo Morelos out of contract in the summer and Kemar Roofe consistently unavailable through injury.
The Gers have been reliant on summer signing Antonio Colak all season long with the Croatian striker netting 11 goals in 14 Premiership games this season.
Meanwhile, a former Ajax man has broken his silence after leaving Ibrox.
