Rangers say that both appointments will bring “further energy and drive” to the club and the appointment of Graham in particular is a significant one in light of recent issues with the press.

Rangers have taken a defiant policy with vexatious media and controversially introduced a media partner programme where outlets pay the club for press access.

Given the fractured relationship between the Gers and the media in Scotland, Graham’s appointment is symbolic of the club’s changing approach and their intentions.

It’s a sign that Rangers are not willing to back down in this regard and that the club are determined to alter the media landscape at Ibrox.

At a recent AGM, David Graham promised the club were determined to hold the media to account.

Kenny Barclay brings financial expertise and experience to Rangers board of directors

Kenny Barclay is an established accountant with over 20 years of experience in the world of finance, working extensively with Ernst & Young, Arnold Clark and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Barclay has also spent time as finance director at TBR Global Chauffeuring and Manorview Hotels & Leisure Group, whilst he spent five years with drinks giant C&C Group.

Barclay has solid pedigree and Rangers will be hoping he can bring that experience and expertise to the world of football and this is being viewed as a professional appointment by the Gers.

George Letham will continue as a “trusted adviser” to Rangers

George Letham was a major investor into Rangers as part of the “Three Bears” consortium which wrestled back control of the boardroom in 2015 alongside Dave King.

This was one of the most significant developments in modern Ibrox history and the investment, time and determination of Letham and his cohorts as been essential in restoring Rangers to former glories.

That’s not quite complete yet – and the work never stops at Ibrox – and whilst Letham is still a shareholder, he’ll step down from his boardroom role after about a stint in the Blue Room.

“We are very grateful to George Letham for his services to TRFC board during a crucial period in our Club’s history,” reads a Rangers statement.

“George played a key role in the management of the impact of Covid-19, and although he is stepping down from this role, he will continue as a trusted adviser.”

Meanwhile, Rangers have sent a firm warning to fans ahead of the club’s trip to Tynecastle to play Hearts this weekend.
