A lot of work has gone on at the home of the Light Blues since fans were last permitted entry back in March 2020.

Stadium WiFi has been installed, contactless payments have been enabled, new sponsor branding has been added to stands and there are plenty more plans for improvements, particularly in hospitality.

Rangers director of commercial and marketing James Bisgrove recently teased that fans could expect ‘quite a transformation’ when they are finally permitted to return en masse.

This week, a minor but interesting new feature has been added pitchside – a metal storage space for goalposts.

As they have been credited in photos shared on Twitter by @SeafarerMichael, it appears that CLF Scotland Ltd were responsible for the work.

The creation of the new storage space is part of the wider process of installing a new hybrid pitch at Ibrox in an attempt to resolve relatively longstanding issues with the playing surface.

Rangers’ pitch has struggled to deal with poor winter weather in recent seasons, leading to complaints from supporters.

As a result, SIS Pitches were brought in to rip out the old surface and to put down something more durable ahead of the 2021/22 season.

The new pitch has now been laid and can be seen in the background of the images.

It looks a little sandy in parts but at this stage that’s likely all part of the plan and the surface still has over two weeks to settle before Arsenal travel to Glasgow for a high-profile pre-season friendly.

If this pitch can hold up for the duration of the season and be conducive to free-flowing football, it gives the Gers a better chance of defending their Premiership title.

Attempts are also being made to improve the playing squad and a multi-million-pound bid is reportedly being prepared for a player likened to a top Premier League star.
