Patrik Berger has delivered some big praise for Rangers, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
The former Liverpool and Czech Republic midfielder was in Glasgow on Saturday to take part in a legends fixture against the Gers. He scored in a 3-2 win for the Reds, on an afternoon where Steven Gerrard played for both teams.
Rumours have been swirling around the Gers manager in recent days and Berger was asked if he thought his former teammate would be tempted by an offer from Besiktas, who Mehmet Demirkol of Bein Sports claims are interested in his services.
Patrick Berger lauds Rangers as massive club
“I think Steven is already in a massive job here,” said Berger, as quoted by the Scottish Sun. “I don’t think going to Turkey would give him any extra edge or anything better. This is the right place for him. He wouldn’t go there.”
“I don’t know for sure, but in my opinion, he is working towards his goal to be Liverpool manager one day. But Rangers is still one of the biggest clubs in Europe, so it is fantastic as a learning curve for him.
“You can tell they love him here. Ever since he came in, he’s done a fantastic job. They know he is passionate about it and that he will do everything to get Rangers to where they belong.”

Verdict
These comments are bound to go down well with Rangers supporters.
When rumours recently claimed Gerrard was a target for the Turkish club, not many were concerned that he would up sticks.
The Gers boss certainly appears to be committed to the cause, and there’s a feeling that right now, he would only leave Ibrox for the Liverpool job – a move which looks a long way off considering the achievements of Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

It’s nice, though, that Berger, who played for the likes of Slavia Prague and Borussia Dortmund before his move to Merseyside in 1996, recognises Rangers as one of Europe’s elite clubs.
The stature of the club itself has always remained despite the hard times, but now results on the pitch are beginning to live up to expectations.
There’s a chance to bring silverware back this season, and after a good start to the campaign, it’s up to the players to kick on after the international break.
