Rangers put in a lacklustre display on Saturday.
Their opponents, St Johnstone, came into the game on the back of a 5-0 hammering by Celtic.
A team low on confidence, they could have been forgiven for fearing receiving similar treatment at Ibrox.
Yet, while Rangers huffed and puffed at times, they simply didn’t do enough.
St Johnstone’s belief grew steadily and the Gers struggled to string passes together, never mind create clear cut chances.
Consequently, it’s of little surprise that none of Gerrard’s men were included in the latest SPFL Team of the Week.
Jermain Defoe and Ross McCrorie have appeared in the last two instalments, but there was to be no third consecutive Rangers representative.
The only reasonable candidate could have been Wes Foderingham, after he spared further blushes with some impressive stops.
Instead, an opponent got the nod.
Saints centre-back, Joe Shaughnessy.
Operating alongside Jason Kerr, he ensured that Jermain Defoe cut an isolated and frustrated figure for much of the 90 minutes.
Rangers will be hoping that Kilmarnock’s defence have less success with Alfredo Morelos on Wednesday evening.
He is eligible for the fixture and should lead the line.
After missing the last two matches, he should be raring to go and has already been up to some mischief in training.
