A leading Dutch newspaper has appeared to conflict with club insider reports by claiming Frank Lampard is in consideration to be the next Rangers manager.

The Gers are currently locked in talks over a new boss following the departure of Steven Gerrard with news breaking on Monday regarding a shortlist of three [Sky Sports].

Out of the three, ex-Rangers star and fan favourite for the role Giovanni van Bronckhorst is the only which has been named.

This has given rise to much conjecture regarding who the other two head coaches could be as Rangers take a breath before going for their man.

Whilst it’s not clear who these guys are, club insiders with close contact with the club have moved quickly to shut down who they aren’t.

The Sky Sports report claims the shortlist does not include Frank Lampard – who has been out of work for almost two years since leaving Chelsea – whilst insiders have rebuffed links to the likes of Derek McInnes and Gennaro Gattuso [Follow, Follow].

Links to Bodø/Glimt coach Kjetil Knutsen have also been rejected by club media partner Heart & Hand.

Dutch report claims Frank Lampard is on shortlist to be next Rangers manager

Despite this De Telegraaf in the Netherlands have claimed that one of the managers being considered by Rangers is Chelsea legend Frank Lampard.

That report claims that not only did Rangers meet with Giovanni – as evidenced by the press coverage of him arriving and leaving a London airport – but they also met with Lampard.

If that is the case, then why are the club telling journalists and insiders that Lampard – a former Gerrard England teammate – is not being considered?

The Ibrox side are well aware that the club has three crunch matches with Hibs in the League Cup, Sparta Prague in the Europa League and Livingston in the Premiership on the horizon.

However, Rangers intimated their intentions to take their time over the appointment by announcing an interim coaching team as the players returned to first-team training.

Whilst rumours spread of an announcement being made on Monday, it was clear from insiders that this would not be the case.

Heart & Hand host David Edgar has also told the platform’s Daily Update that he’d be “very surprised” if an announcement also came by Tuesday 16th.

This might not pacify some supporters, who’re growing increasingly impatient with the club’s high-pressure season set to kick back off in a matter of days.
