Rangers are set for an announcement regarding potential new manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst today (Thursday 18/11/21) as the club steps up the hunt to replace Steven Gerrard.
That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claimed in a story released yesterday evening that an announcement over Gio “is set to be made within 24 hours”.
Rangers fans everywhere have been frantically updating their phone and computer screens as they await an official announcement regarding the Dutch manager.
Reports broke last night suggesting the Gers were closing in on the ex-Feyenoord manager with the “focus” on the deal now on the manager’s backroom staff.
Rangers have a substantial backroom staff to replace with Steven Gerrard heading south to Aston Villa and taking Gary McAllister (assistant) Mick Beale (first team coach), Tom Culshaw (technical coach), Jordan Milsom (head of performance) and Scott Mason (lead analyst) with him.
But with regards the main man in charge of the squad reports are suggesting that Rangers are edging closer and we can expect an announcement imminently.
Daily Mail claims Rangers manager announcement is imminent
Whilst that certainly sounds nice – and there’s a growing feeling in the Ibrox support that this is true – we’ve been somewhat told this every single day this week.
However, there is also a suggestion that if Gio’s appointment is not announced today then it’ll be next week before Rangers officially get their man.
That’s because Rangers are set to honour the life of club legend and former manager Walter Smith at Glasgow Cathedral and it is highly unlikely this would be overshadowed with an announcement.
Heading into the weekend – and a crunch clash with Hibs at Hampden in the semi-final of the Premier Sports Cup – that suggests things will be put on hold until next week.
We’re expecting an announcement today however and so are the rest of the support with fans already adopting a Dutch anthem in homage to Gio.
