Neil Critchley is set to replace new Rangers manager Michael Beale for the second time in a year after taking charge at English Championship side QPR.

This follows on from Neil Critchley replacing Michael Beale at Aston Villa as Steven Gerrard’s assistant after Beale took the job at Loftus Road.

A former Liverpool youth coach and stand in League Cup manager for the top team on occasion, Critchley actually left a job at Blackpool to make the switch to Villa in the summer.

However, following the sacking of Steven Gerrard and the appointment of Unai Emery, Neil Critchley had been looking for work and now he is set to follow in the footsteps of Michael Beale at QPR.

Neil Critchley takes charge at QPR

Critchley has been expressing his delight at taking the job in West London, where the manager has signed a three-and-a-half year deal.

“I am very excited and can’t wait to get started,” said Neil Critchley [QPR].

“It is a huge honour for me and I would like to thank the owners, Les Ferdinand and Lee Hoos for entrusting me to lead the club.

“I would also like to thank Paul Hall and his staff for the hard work they have put in during the interim period.

“Now I am looking forward to getting to work with the players and staff. I already know some of the players from working with them previously and I am aware of a number of them, having followed their careers from afar.

“There have been some good foundations laid here and now it is my job to work as hard as I can to build on that.

“We want to move the club forward and ensure we are competing at the top end of the Championship table.”

The appointment of Neil Critchley should put an end to this Rangers-linked merry go-round of sorts from the last year, with Gerrard now out of work, Beale back at Rangers and Critchley taking the reigns at QPR.

We wonder what’s up next for Giovanni van Bronckhorst too.

Meanwhile, Michael Beale has been talking up the chances of one key Rangers star staying at Ibrox.
