Rangers reportedly pipped the Premier League pair to sign Alex Lowry on a new deal heading into the summer with the three-year contract a major coup given the finances at both Man City and Newcastle Utd.

But as a clip of the Scotland youth international starring for the U21s goes viral online, Rangers fans are given a timely reminder of the scale of those who’ve been linked with their star talent in the past.

Alex Lowry Man City conversation reignited after stunning Scotland moment

In a stunning moment of skill from the youngster during the 2-1 defeat to the Iceland U21s, Lowry turns his man before spraying a wonderful pass forward to Liverpool talent Ben Doak.

Whilst the ex-Celtic kid Doak couldn’t finish the move, Alex Lowry showed exactly why Pep Guardiola and Man City were reportedly having conversations about him only a few months ago.

Despite being 19, there are high hopes on Alex Lowry’s shoulders and its telling that the likes of Man City and Newcastle United continue to be mentioned.

It serves as a reminder to Rangers as to the talents of the kid and it’s interesting to note that Alex Lowry has played only once – as a late substitute against Ajax in the Champions League – for the top team this season.

This comes amid that series of disappointing injuries but the creative midfielder has managed to turn out for the B side this season.

Whilst it’s not quite Man City level, Alex Lowry has managed seven goals in ten appearances for the B Team, including four in three in the Challenge Cup.

Alex Lowry also managed to net a double in a recent B Team clash as Rangers fans raise the question regarding more top team appearances.
