Michael Beale compensation fears after £5m Rangers overhaul

Rangers fans are wondering how much compensation it took to sack Michael Beale and his backroom staff one year on from investing £5m to bring them to Ibrox.

A stuttering start to the season means Beale has been given his jotters by an Ibrox board who swear they’re going to take their time to get the next appointment right.

But after a summer of investment Rangers fans will be curious to know how much the club paid in compensation it took to relieve Michael Beale and co from their duties.

Rangers announced that Michael Beale, Neil Banfield, Damian Matthew, Harry Watling and Jack Ade would all be leaving the club with immediate effect.

With Ibrox Hall of Famer Steven Davis taking interim charge, the club are now on the hunt for the 19th permanent manager of Rangers Football Club.

Rangers compensation question after expensive Michael Beale experiment

The hunt to bring the 18th to the club was expensive business indeed with reports suggesting Rangers had to pay Giovanni van Bronckhorst and his staff off to the tune of £3.5m.

Add the reported £1.5m it took to bring Michael Beale and his staff to Glasgow from QPR and suddenly we’re somewhere around £5m for a manager who didn’t even last the year.

With the former Ibrox assistant and his team contracted until 2026, Michael Beale and co are entitled to a pay off and all will surely come out in the wash. Or the accounts.

On top of paying off Michael Beale and his managerial backroom team, Rangers will now need to invest in a new manager who, despite a substantial summer overhaul, will need assurances over spending in the transfer market.

That Rangers have acted quicker than expected – many believed the jig was up for Michael Beale after the Celtic defeat – the compensation involved in every aspect of the move is set to be costly for the club.

This is precisely why Rangers must get their next move right with the season teetering on the edge and the fact three managers have been in the door in 24 months something which cannot be allowed to happen again.
