Rangers are likely to announce their latest new signing in Cyriel Dessers on Thursday, according to a Scottish football journalist.

Euan Robertson writes for the Rangers Review and has claimed that his sources tell him a deal for the Cremonese striker is likely to be announced on Thursday 6th July.

This comes amid gathering reports that Dessers has undergone a medical with everything seemingly set for Rangers to announce the striker as their sixth summer signing.

“The thing is that it’s now four o’clock, and we know the period that Rangers usually announce players is between half four and half six,” said Robertson, speaking on the Rangers Review YouTube channel [04/07, 23:00]

“I don’t think that Dessers will be today [04/07]. I’ll put my neck out and say Thursday [06/07] before Dessers is announced, I don’t think that’s going to be done today.

“I said earlier that I though it would be done today so its an egg in face moment but you’ve got to sometimes admit your errors.

“I’m hearing it could be Thursday for Dessers.”

Rangers close in on Cyriel Dessers announcement

Whilst Rangers appear to be closing in on an announcement for Cyriel Dessers, there is some conjecture regarding the transfer fee.

Belgian journalist Sven Claes has claimed Rangers have struck a €5m (£4.3m) deal with Cremonese to sign the striker, whilst Fabrizio Romano claims the deal includes an extra €1.5m in potential add-ons, taking the value up to €6.5m (£5.6m).

Whatever the case, given the profile and age of 28-year-old Cyriel Dessers this is a substantial outlay for Rangers and the big man will need to deliver.

Rangers have been looking to reinforce their frontline this summer after the departure of Alfredo Morelos and a lacklustre return from the club’s forwards in recent seasons.

There is genuine hope that Cyriel Dessers can be the man to lead Rangers to glory and it has been clear throughout the summer that the Nigerian international is Michael Beale’s number one transfer target.
