Jorg Albertz announcement has HSV publicly responding to Rangers

German giants HSV Hamburg have responded to Rangers as the club releases a clip of Jorg Albertz ahead of the upcoming Weekend of Legends II.

The Gers will welcome club legend Jorg Albertz back to Ibrox for the hotly-anticipated friendly clash, with the Hammer one of several big names set to descend on Govan during the international break.

But it’s not just Rangers with whom Jorg Albertz is synonymous, the legendary German midfielder also an icon at Bundesliga 2 giants HSV Hamburg.

Rangers signed the midfielder from HSV in 1996, with the powerhouse midfielder returning to the club six years later after winning seven trophies with the Ibrox side.

The Gers are also in an official partnership with HSV, the two clubs sharing a relationship going back to the 1970s when Glaswegian dockworkers settled in the German city.

Responding to the tweet, HSV celebrated the shared legacy of Jorg Albertz, who was nicknamed the Hammer due to his wickedly powerful shot.

Jorg Albertz to return for Weekend of Legends

Rangers fans can see Jorg Albertz and a whole host of Ibrox and world legends at the upcoming Weekend of Legends at Ibrox on Sunday March 26th.

From the Rangers side of things, a hatful of the club’s former stars are set to be present on the day with Barry Ferguson captaining a team that will include Jermaine Defoe, Kris Boyd, Michael Mols, Saša Papac, Jörg Albertz, Ronald de Boer, Carlos Cuellar and Peter Lovenkrands, amongst many others.

The likes of Robin van Persie, Nwankwo Kanu, Jack Wilshere, Robbie Fowler, Jaap Stam, Joe Cole, Michael Essien and Paul Scholes have also been confirmed for the World XI, with more in the pipeline.
