At full-time after Rangers’ crunch midweek clash at Aberdeen, Steven Gerrard spoke to Rangers TV and lauded his two centre-backs.
When the teams were announced an hour before kick-off, it was a big boost to see Connor Goldson return. Still though, some fans were disappointed at the exclusion of Nikola Katic, in favour of Joe Worrall.
On the night, though, the duo worked well together.
It’s not often a centre-back partnership is praised so highly when their team concede twice.
However, the game at Pittodrie had everything. Goals, penalties, cards, atmosphere and
controversy.
Therefore, it was a win at all costs mentality, and both Worrall and Goldson stood up.

“I think what happened to Joe Worrall the other week, the way he has come back and responded has been top drawer, I must give him a special mention tonight”, the manager told RangersTV.
“I can’t think of words for Connor, as he had one session, or half a session because it was so light. To come in having not played since Celtic and having trained so little, he was a mountain for this club tonight.”
High praise, but fully deserved.
Worrall has had his critics at times, and rightly so. Yet, on Wednesday night, he and his vice-captain played a considerable role in what was a massive win for Rangers’ season.
