Standard Liege midfielder Nicolas Raskin was benched for the club’s latest match – but according to reports in France the 21-year-old won’t be moving to Rangers.
Reports broke over the weekend claiming that the Gers were hoping to negotiate a deal for the Belgian U21 international, the midfielder entering the final year of his contract and initially valued at £4.6m.

With days left in the transfer window, there is an expectation of quality additions at Ibrox and fans would’ve been watching the situation with Standard and whether or not Nicolas Raskin played this weekend.
As things transpired, the box-to-box midfielder would come off the bench with 30 minutes to play in the Belgian Pro League club’s eventual 1-0 win away to Kortrijk.
The victory came courtesy of a Selim Amallah goal with seven minutes to play, with Nicolas Raskin replacing Aleksandar Boljevic in the second half.
Nicolas Raskin “will not go to Rangers” despite Standard benching
For fans looking for greater insight into a potential move to Rangers this has clearly given little away but reports coming out France appear to give a little more detail.
Le Soir – a reputable outlet in the European nation – claim that Nicolas Raskin “will not go to Rangers” and claim that Club Brugge remain an interested party.
So much so that a loan exchange for Brugge’s Colombian midfielder Eder Balanta has been offered as a makeweight in the deal.

We’ve no reason not to believe Le Soir so perhaps Rangers won’t be signing Raskin in this window after all in news that will disappoint fans.
According to the Scottish Daily Express, Marseille are also interested in Nicolas Raskin alongside Rangers and Club Brugge.
If a move for Nicolas Raskin is a no-goer, Rangers fans have already intimated to the club the midfielder they’d love to see turning out at ibrox next season.
