Clement latest manager conned by Rangers misfit

There was a wave of excitement approaching today’s league game with Hibernian at Ibrox, a wave that almost totally evaporated when Scott Wright’s name was seen in the Rangers line up.

It might seem harsh, however, Ross McCausland must have been sitting on the bench wondering what he needs to do to get a game.

Philippe Clement hasn’t been at the club long but the coaching staff should have been advising him about Scott Wright’s recent performances for Rangers.

Scott Wright lucky to get Rangers chance again

Against Aris Limassol, he was anonymous, having been sent off against Aberdeen when he came on as a substitute.

Two yellow cards that were amateur at best.

To make matters worse, Ross McCausland impressed when he was thrown on against Limassol by Steven Davis and then again against St Mirren.

In 60 minutes, the Northern Ireland youth international put Nicolas Raskin and Cyriel Dessers 1v1.

More clear-cut chances than Scott Wright has made all season.

It’s another example that Michael Beale didn’t get it right in the summer transfer window by releasing Ryan Kent and selling Fashion Sakala without getting at least one out and out winger in.

Scott Wright, clearly should have left Rangers in the summer when he had the chance.

Philippe Clement confirmed pre-match that much of his first selection was due to his hand being forced by injuries and fitness but Scott Wright’s inclusion for Rangers doesn’t come under this umbrella.

There are some players who should be given time under a new manager, ones that have maybe been played out of position or not yet fully settled.

But then, there are others, like Scott Wright, who have had their chance at Rangers and proven that they simply aren’t good enough to wear the jersey.

Anyone can look good in training when there is no pressure but it is infront of 50,000 and a congested defence that it matters.
