Until now, Rangers have been known as the Champions League’s worst EVER team.
The 2022/23 European campaign was a miserable one for Gers after being drawn in a Group of Death involving Liverpool, Napoli and Ajax.
Managed by Giovanni van Bronckhorst and then Michael Beale, the team lost every single match and there was a 7-1 humbling by the Reds, a 4-0 thumping from the Dutchman and two 3-0s against the Italians.
All that combined to leave the Ibrox men with zero points and a goal difference of -20, having scored just two goals across the six games.
Rangers haven’t been back in the group stage, or league phase, since but are having another successful Europa League campaign and could even finish in the top eight with a result against Union Saint-Gilloise.
But that very unwanted Champions League record has still been hanging over them, until now.

Young Boys take Rangers’ Champions League record
That’s because Swiss side Young Boys, who lost to Celtic last week, have now taken it off their hands.
They were on the end of another defeat last night, 1-0 to Crvena Zvezda, to finish with no points and a goal difference of -21.
Despite that coming over eight games instead of Rangers’ six, it still makes them statistically the Champions League’s worst ever side.
Of course, they only have a narrowly worse goal difference across more games but that also meant they had more of an opportunity to pick up at least a point.
Rangers can continue Europa League form
The recent history in the Champions League doesn’t make for good reading but the performances in the Europa League have been much better.
No-one will forget that incredible march to the final and there were also good runs under Steven Gerrard, and even some memorable nights just last season before defeat to Benfica.
Facing USG tonight, Rangers can still qualify automatically for the Europa League last 16 but may need a favour from last week’s opponent Manchester United.
Gers of course need to take care of business against the Belgians first, but the most likely outcome is looking like the play-offs.
