For a while there, it looked as though Ross McCrorie was one of the first names on the Rangers team sheet.
The 20-year-old midfielder was outstanding in December’s Old Firm victory.

Furthermore, after the winter break, he picked up where he’d left off.
He started four straight matches at the beginning of this month, delivering the kind of performances we had come to expect from him.
Dogged and efficient.
However, Wednesday night’s fixture against Dundee was the third time in a row that he’s been overlooked.

What’s happened?
McCrorie’s relegation to the bench has little to do with his own form.
There haven’t been rumours of a falling out with the manager, either.
The simple explanation, is the rise of Glen Kamara.
Since he was handed a debut against St Johnstone, he has looked extremely assured in the centre of the park.
Against Kilmarnock, in particular, he was outstanding. Many Rangers fans couldn’t believe what they were seeing.
Up against his old side last night, it was more of the same.

Therefore, McCrorie has been a victim of circumstance, more than anything else.
It’s a good sign that Steven Gerrard can afford to leave out such an impressive performer.
Yet, for now, Kamara is undroppable and many people’s ‘future captain’, McCrorie, will have to bide his time.
A 20 minute cameo last night, shows he’s not far away.
