Long-term Rangers transfer target Ryan Kent appears to be stuck in limbo at Liverpool.
The 22-year-old was tipped for a permanent move to Leeds United last week. However, no deal materialised before the transfer window slammed shut.
As a result, he will not be able to move to a club in either of the top two divisions in England this summer.
That wouldn’t be such a bad thing if he were in with a shout of challenging for the Liverpool first team.
However, despite featuring heavily in pre-season, that now looks distinctly unlikely.
Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have returned from their extended holidays following summer international duty and consequently, Kent has been discarded.
He didn’t make the 18 for the Reds’ opening day win over Norwich and instead, was sent to turn out for the U23s.
He started in a 4-0 defeat to Spurs at a sparsely attended Premier League 2 fixture at the Kirby Academy on Saturday.

It was understandable after such a fuss was made about Kent last term, that Jurgen Klopp wanted to have a proper look at him in pre-season.
Given the attacking resources the Reds have, though, it always looked unlikely that he would be able to force his way in.
Now, due to their stubbornness over a transfer fee, Liverpool have left their player in an unenviable situation.
If this scenario persists, will they finally give in and sanction a second Ibrox loan? Or, after the capture of Brandon Barker on a permanent deal, are Rangers now happy with their lot?
