Rangers’ issues in front of goal are well documented as Steven Gerrard’s side goes on a 13-match run without scoring more than two goals.

In fact, the Ibrox side’s lack of potency in the final third has seen the Gers score more than two goals only three times this season – twice in the Premiership (3-0 St Mirren, 4-0 Ross County) and once in the League Cup (5-0, Dunfermline).

The club’s misfiring forward players have toiled for form all season and, had it not been for eight-goal striker Kemar Roofe things would look decidedly worse the Gers.

It’s a problem that needs to be fixed directly but the situation certainly hasn’t been helped by letting an on-form striker from pre-season head out on loan to the Bundesliga.

Should Rangers have let Cedric Itten leave after bright pre-season amid goal woes?

Cedric Itten might not have not have been promised the minutes he’d have liked this season, but as the Gers toil and options look limited up top, perhaps the decision to let the forward leave on loan was the wrong one this season.

After a year in Glasgow – during which Itten struggled to settle amid the backdrop of the pandemic – Ced the Ted was now ready to make his mark with the Light Blues.

A late goal in a draw with Arsenal and the winner v Real Madrid at Ibrox had fans thinking we were truly going to see why we paid St Gallen a reported £2.7m for the Swiss international last summer.

Not that Cedric’s first season wasn’t without it’s benefits; games against Motherwell were almost made for the forward whilst he also netted a couple in the Europa League.

But the man who has taken his place in the squad in Fashion Sakala has struggled to settle and now the decision looks increasingly bizarre,

Despite talking Ced up for much of pre-season, the club let the player leave for Bundesliga strugglers Gruether Furth.

Since then Sakala has netted one goal and Jermain Defoe – another reliable option from last season – has been nowhere to be seen and has made only one appearance this season.

That’s two of the forward line who won us 55 last season with Sakala yet to fully find his feet in Glasgow.

As the Ibrox side toil for form in front of goal, perhaps Steven Gerrard and his backroom staff missed a trick by not putting their faith in someone who finally appeared to be finding theirs.

Speaking of Rangers strikers, an Ibrox legend has slammed one of the club’s man men for “walking about” in the draw with Aberdeen.
