A quartet of Rangers stars have dominated the official Sofa Score Europa League team of the week as the Gers’ 3-0 win over Red Star Belgrade ripples around Europe.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s team landed three major blows on the Serbian champs in a stunning performance and game with an atmosphere to match.

Rangers certainly rode their luck in the clash, but the win was no less than the Ibrox side’s tactically flexible and ruthless performance deserved on yet another iconic night in Govan.

All the players deserve credit for their performance with one foot now in the quarter-finals, but Sofa Score have singled out an Ibrox quartet in their team of the week.

Rangers dominate Sofa Score Europa League XI

Allan McGregor – who produced a stunning first-half penalty save against Aleksandr Katai to keep the scoreline at 2-0 – was named in the goalkeeper position.

Nigerian international defender Leon Balogun was named at centre-back for his contribution to the victory, both keeping a clean sheet and powering in the third goal from a James Tavernier corner.

And it’s the skipper, who also scored the opener with a perfect penalty from the spot after Ryan Kent had been fouled, who earns a slot at right-back.

Up top, who else but Europa League legend Alfredo Morelos who celebrates becoming the third top scorer in the competition by earning a spot as striker.

El Bufalo netted his 32nd goal in the competition as the Rangers star, 25, continues to close in on the record held by Celtic legend Henrik Larsson (40).

Interestingly, Alfredo Morelos also partners fellow Colombian international Luis Muriel in the striking positions, with the Atalanta forward being named player of the week by Sofa Score.

The striker – for whom the Serie A side paid £15m to sign from Sevilla in 2019 [Sports Joe] – netted twice in the 3-2 victory over German giants Bayer Leverkusen.

Rangers are also the most represented team in the Sofa Score XI with four, double that of nearest challengers Atalanta who have two.

It’s not the first mention we’ve had of Luis Muriel on the site this week either.
