In 2017, Joe Dodoo was introduced as a half-time substitute in a Scottish Cup semi-final against Celtic.
Fast-forward two years and his stock has dropped drastically at Ibrox.
The 24-year-old is rated at £225k by Transfermarkt but hasn’t got anywhere near a matchday squad since Steven Gerrard took over as manager.
Dodoo spent last season on loan at Blackpool, where he offered glimpses of brilliance. For example, he netted two bicycle kicks in December on a run of four goals in four matches.
However, he was impacted by injuries at various points of the season and Blackpool haven’t looked to tie up a permanent deal. Instead, they forked out a fee for another Gers striker – Ryan Hardie.
Rangers attacker Joe Dodoo in Ibrox limbo
Since his return from England, there’s been little to no news on Dodoo. He turned out once for the Development team in a friendly against Stirling Albion early last month.

Yet, as far as we can see, he hasn’t featured for any Gers team since then, nor was he involved in any aspect of pre-season with the first team.
Similarly to the mysterious case of Zak Rudden, the club have left supporters in the dark over a contracted player. Right now, with no reports of interest from elsewhere, Dodoo appears to be stuck in limbo at Ibrox.
An EFL rule change could offer him an escape from his current situation, though. While the transfer window closed for Premier League and Championship clubs last Thursday, League One and Two outfits can still sign players up until 2 September.
Assuming that Dodoo is fit, then, there’s still a chance that a side south of the border could move for him for the third season running.
Gerrard clearly isn’t a fan, but will someone else take a punt on the former Leicester City attacker?
