Rangers' Allan McGregor fortunate after poor Aberdeen challenge

Wednesday night saw an extremely positive performance from Rangers.
The players were spirited, competitive and clinical, ensuring they registered a first win in four attempts over Aberdeen this season.
However, these things are rarely perfect, and last night was no exception.
Alfredo Morelos was sent off for yet another act of petulance. Now, another suspension looms for the Rangers and SPL top scorer.

At the time, some fans felt it was was a terrible decision from the referee, whilst others saw the call as justified.

Could have been a lot worse

Allan McGregor was extremely fortunate to not also be sent off during the second period.
A little after the hour mark, the Rangers keeper came rushing out to the edge of his area to mop up an attempted through ball.
In so doing, though, he left his mark on the onrushing Lewis Ferguson.

While momentum carried McGregor across the slick surface, there’s little doubt he left his leg in unnecessarily.
Studs up, he caught the midfielder flush on the shin and left him writhing around on the ground.
Alternative camera angles later showed referee, Bobby Madden, looking directly at the incident.
Yet, fortunately, neither a penalty nor a card was given.
It was a moment of madness from an experienced campaigner, who has
barely put a foot wrong since returning to the Gers in the summer.

His reflexes came to the fore later in the piece, as he pulled off a number of smart stops.
The fact remains, though, that his previous act put all three points in jeopardy and he was very fortunate not to be pulled up for it.
