A Rangers U19 team hammered RB Leipzig 4-0 in a Group A Mercedes-Benz Junior Cup fixture on Saturday afternoon in Germany.

The quirky 6-a-side competition is played in the Glaspalast in Stuttgart, with dramatic lighting used and music played during the games.

After a first-half stalemate, the Gers opened the scoring early in the second period courtesy of a lovely finish from Ciaran Dickson, who delicately turned a through ball past the opposition keeper and into the bottom left corner.

Zak Butterworth grabbed a second shortly afterwards, arriving at pace at the back post to fire home a cross, before Nathan Young-Coombes got in on the act, slamming home from close range to put the Gers three to the good.

The Young Gers looked to play some slick stuff during the course of the 18-minute clash and their fourth and final goal was the pick of the bunch.

Picking the ball up in his own half, highly-rated defender Leon King set off on a run down the left flank before exchanging a one-two with a teammate and promptly burying a finish into the bottom left corner from just outside the area.

An impressive display from Graeme Murty’s side, then, who had earlier lost 3-0 to Rapid Vienna, but defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 courtesy of another Ciaran Dickson strike.

The action is set to continue tomorrow, with the Gers facing Porto and Stuttgart in the morning. Both fixtures will be streamed via the Rangers Youth Academy Twitter account and on the club’s official Facebook page from 8.28am UK time.
