Zebedee Lawson is giving Danny Rohl plenty to think about after the Rangers teenager ran riot at an off-season tournament this weekend.

The Ibrox academy product has been one of the standout performers at the Hong Kong Soccer Sevens, where Rangers B are competing alongside several Under-21s sides, including West Ham United, Brighton & Hove Albion, Leeds United and Aston Villa.

Lawson has caught the eye with a series of devastating displays, emerging as one of the competition’s most clinical finishers and underlining why those within Auchenhowie rate him so highly.

Which area should Rangers prioritise on strengthening this summer? 🤔

Zebedee Lawson announces himself with six-goal haul

The teenager scored six goals across Rangers‘ group stage matches – a form that will not have gone unnoticed by those monitoring his progress from Ibrox.

His most impressive display came in a 5-1 demolition of BC Rangers, where Lawson helped himself to four goals in a stunning individual performance.

Footage of Lawson’s four-goal haul in Hong Kong has now emerged on social media, leaving fans stunned.

The 17-year-old added further strikes as the Light Blues finished second in Group D, winning one and drawing two of their three group games.

The results have since been mixed. A 2-0 defeat to Brighton was followed by a 1-0 victory over Larne FC, with fellow academy talent Aiden McCallion netting the winner in the latter, but Lawson’s personal contribution throughout has been impossible to ignore.

What it means for Rohl’s plans

Lawson is no stranger to the first-team setup, having made two appearances for Rohl’s side this season, but six goals in a prestigious tournament sends a clear message.

The winger, who arrived from Brighton last year, is ready to be taken seriously as a first-team option.

With Rangers expected to undergo significant squad changes this summer, the door is open for academy talent to stake a claim.

Lawson, McCallion and Findlay Curtis have all made compelling cases in recent months, and the 49ers Enterprises ownership have been explicit in their desire to see more homegrown talent involved at the first-team level.

On this evidence, Lawson’s case is growing stronger by the day.
