Derek McInnes has begun life as Rangers manager, and that involves making important decisions surrounding the futures of his players.

He has already seen a host of players leaving before he was even appointed the Gers boss, and there will be many more who will be shown the door in the coming weeks.

McInnes will learn a lot about his squad in pre-season, and that will shape his decisions that will define the season.

If Lewis Ferguson joins post the World Cup, who should Derek McInnes name the Rangers captain?

Ashton Scally did not report to Rangers Under-19 training ahead of 2026/27 season

Ashton Scally has not shown up to pre-season training for the Under-19s side, according to Rangers Review.

The reason for that is, despite being only 16, the defender has been viewed as a first-team player by McInnes and the coaching staff at Auchenhowie.

Since late 2025, the teenager has been training regularly with the senior squad, and while he did not make his first-team debut until May, which was the final day of the season, he has been viewed as somebody who could contribute in the upcoming season.

That could be one of the reasons why the left-back decided to sign a new contract and commit his future to the Ibrox outfit.

Manchester City and Tottenham were both considering a move for him, but he felt that he would get a quicker pathway to first-team football if he stayed put in Glasgow.

How Tuur Rommens can help Scally become an asset for Rangers

Despite joining Rangers in January, Tuur Rommens has shown what an important player he can be for the club off the pitch as well.

Due to his leadership skills, a number of fans have tipped him to be named the next captain as well.

While it may be a tad early for that, what he surely can do is help Scally develop into a proper talent at Ibrox.

As both are natural left-backs, there is a clear developmental link, with the 16-year-old being able to learn from the former Westerlo defender.

Rommens can offer the youngster technical guidance as he excels in crossing, dribbling and tackling, something which Scally would need to improve on should he go on to become a regular in the matchday squad.
