Former Rangers kid Harris O’Connor is on trial at Premier League Burnley and could join up with a former Ibrox Academy teammate at the Turf Moor club.

According to the Daily Record, Ibrox Academy graduate and 19-year-old centre-back O’Connor played in a Burnley U23s trial match against Lancaster City this week.

This comes after Harris O’Connor was one of 10 players who were released by the Rangers Academy this summer.

Amongst those was once promising Ibrox midfield talent Ciaran Dickson, who has also spent time on trial at Burnley this pre-season.

Dickson was back at the Rangers Training Centre for a recent pre-season friendly against the Ibrox club’s B side but tasted defeat as the Gers ran out 4-2 winners.

Dickson was released from Ibrox despite signing a new deal only last season, with Athletic journalist Jordan Campbell claiming there was a falling out with the Gers hierarchy.

This concerned Dickson failing to report for training with the trust then broken between himself and Steven Gerrard, despite making his Gers debut in the 4-0 League Cup win over Falkirk last season.

There’s been Premier League interest aplenty in those names who’ve been released by the Gers this season with promising striker Dapo Mebude signing a deal with Watford this summer.

Young goalkeeper Brian Kinnear – one of five players who were involved in a high profile Covid-19 breach last season – has also been offered a trial chance by West Ham United.

The Gers have since moved to replace these youngsters with four young starlets signing professional contracts this summer to replace the 10 outgoing players.
