Rangers have thrown their support behind Women’s team manager Jo Potter by giving her a two-year contract extension.

The former England international, 39, took charge of Rangers in the summer after former boss Malky Thomson had finished third behind Glasgow City and Old Firm rivals Celtic.

Since taking charge, Potter has been unbeaten in the SWPL this season with the Rangers Women sitting top of the division four points clear of both Celtic and Glasgow City.

The new contract is a major statement of support for former Birmingham City manager Jo Potter, with 10 games still to run until the end of the SWPL season.

The Rangers Women are also in the Final of the Sky Sports Cup after overcoming Old Firm rivals Celtic in the semi-final, whilst the club also remain in the Scottish Cup.

Jo Potter signs contract extension

Jo Potter has described the decision to sign a new contract with the Women’s team as a “no brainer” and suggested she is “very happy” at Ibrox.

Claiming that this is just the beginning of something “special”, it’s clear everyone is aligned about the direction the Women’s team is moving in.

“I am really happy here,” said Potter. “It was kind of a no brainer for me when the club approached me about extending my stay.

“It is the start of something really special and the club has made me feel more than welcome and been really aligned with my views and my way of working. I have really enjoyed this last few months of being here.”

Women’s and Girls’ Managing Director Donald Gillies added: “Since I joined the club, I have thoroughly enjoyed my working relationship with Jo. I am pleased that we were able to make swift progress on the contract discussions, which demonstrate how committed to Rangers she is.

“The professionalism, high standards and dedication that Jo and all of the coaching and support staff have given to make this club successful is evident both on and off the pitch.

“We hope that hard work is rewarded with some silverware and we are in a strong position to achieve that goal under Jo.”

Rangers Women find their manager

After a stuttering campaign last season under Malky Thomson, the Rangers Women appear to have finally got the right person in charge to lead them going forward.

The Ibrox club have led the way in Women’s football ever since fully incorporating the female game into the club’s footballing department in 2019.

With big ambitions both domestically and in the Champions League, Jo Potter is now tasked with delivering on the expectations of being a Rangers manager in the women’s game.

It doesn’t matter if it’s the men’s team, the women’s team, or the youth team, when it comes to Rangers only victory will suffice.
