As reported by the Scottish Sun, Rangers winger Josh Windass is close to completing a £2 million move to Wigan Athletic, despite looking like he would join Ipswich Town at one point.
The Tractor Boys have been trying to replace ex-Ger Martyn Waghorn, who left the club to join Derby County on a three-year deal, and had identified the Englishman as their number one priority, but it looks like the Latics will get their man.

Windass scored 18 goals in all competitions for the Light Blues last season and was one of the team’s standout performers, but he has only been used sparingly by new manager Steven Gerrard throughout pre-season.
Windass only signed a new deal in February, but it appears the Liverpool legend is open to selling him, and that could mean a timely break for newly promoted youngster Glenn Middleton.

Middleton had caught Gerrard’s eye during the team’s pre-season training activities in Spain, and the 18-year-old was expected to be given some chances in the first team this season.
With Windass set to leave the club in favour of a move south, this could be the chance for Middleton to make his mark, although there is still competition in the wide areas from the likes Ovie Ejaria, Ryan Kent, Daniel Candeias, and Jamie Murphy.

But Rangers may be in for a long season in 2018/19. If they can get past Maribor in the next round of qualifying for the Europa League, then there could be some long trips in store and Gerrard will have to use his entire squad.
Middleton, who was praised by Gerrard before his recent promotion to the first team, is direct and pacy and seeks to make things happen and get fans off their seats.
