Wolves are set to sanction a January exit for Portuguese striker Fabio Silva in news which might be of interest incoming Rangers Director Nils Koppen.
As reported by local Wolverhampton outlet the Express and Star, the £35m striker is set to move on from Molineux after falling out of favour under manager Gary O’Neil.
The report claims that no fewer than five German clubs – including Eintracht Frankfurt, Borussia Monchengladbach, Wolfsburg and Union Berlin – have already expressed an interest.
With unnamed clubs in Italy and Spain also mentioned, it’s clear Fabio Silva is a wanted man despite making only three Premier League starts this season.
But whilst competition might be fierce, Fabio Silva certainly looks like a player who fits the Rangers profile and, having worked with Nils Koppen at PSV Eindhoven, should be familiar to the Ibrox recruitment team.
Nils Koppen signed Fabio Silva at PSV Eindhoven
Rangers have appointed Nils Koppen with the intention of ramping up their player trading model with the Belgian recruitment guru, who joins after spending four years working with PSV.
Last season, the 38-year-old would’ve been heavily involved in the deal which brought Fabio Silva to the Philips Stadion for the final six months of last season.
Once amongst the most highly-rated young talents in European football, Wolves turned heads when they splashed the remarkable £35m they spent to sign the striker in 2020.
Coming through at FC Porto and making his debut as a 17-year-old, little over a year later the striker made the switch to Wolves and since then it has not happened in England.
Without a Premier League goal since 2021, Silva spent the first half of last season on loan at Anderlecht (11 goals, 32 games) before moving to PSV Eindhoven (5 goals, 19 games).
Young talents can find their way at Rangers
Rangers continue to prove themselves a solid place for young talents who’ve lost their way to re-find their form and love of the beautiful game.
Todd Cantwell and Abdallah Sima stand out as recent examples and given the links to Premier League for both these players, it could have Wolves looking north.
With Fabio Silva contracted to Wolves until 2026, the club aren’t really under pressure to sell and perhaps a loan move is viewed as the best opportunity to maximise a return on their investment.

With Nils Koppen having also previously struck a deal to sign Fabio Silva on loan, Rangers fans will be watching the situation very closely as the Gers look to bolster their squad this January.
Whilst we have to be clear that the Ibrox club have not been officially linked to the forward, Philippe Clement has admitted that the club will be dipping into the transfer market this winter.
With a long-term injury to Danilo, a short-term deal might suit everyone involved and we wonder if Rangers have one eye on how Fabio Silva’s situation is progressing at Wolves.
