The club’s new Sporting Director, Ross Wilson, has asserted that Rangers is an attractive prospect for players, as quoted by the Glasgow Evening Times.

The former Southampton board member has opened up for the first time since starting his role at Ibrox, where he’ll be looking to build on a platform laid by his predecessor, Mark Allen.

Come January, there won’t be as large a recruitment drive as in recent windows. It looks like it’ll be more about trimming down the squad than adding scores of new faces.

Yet, when the time comes to inject quality, Wilson believes there’ll be plenty willing to sign.

“The attraction of this club will be strong,” he said, as quoted by the Glasgow Evening Times. “I spoke to some Sporting Director colleagues before accepting this job.”

“One of the other things I did was to speak to some of the leading agents within my network, from the biggest, most prominent companies. I asked them about the attraction of Rangers. And, what I could feel was that Rangers was a club people could identify with.

“They know the size of this club. They know the attraction of this club. Clearly playing on the highest European stage is going to be an attraction for any player…But I believe this club is going to be attractive to players in the markets we are going to be looking at.”

Verdict

Wilson comes to Rangers with a strong professional reputation and is sure to have a big contact network in the game.

Therefore, it’s exciting for him to make assertions such as this about the attractiveness of the club to both agents and players.

After the recent period of revival, it’s not hard to see the aspects carrying appeal, though.

The club’s manager is a legendary figure within the game and 50,000 passionate fans pack into Ibrox for every home game. Right now, Rangers are taking on all comers in the Europa League and competing for all available domestic silverware.

Gerrard and co. are yet to deliver tangible success, but there’s a sense that it’s on the horizon. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that quest for greatness at a colossal club that’s so clearly on the up?
