Rangers are reportedly interested in signing Bournemouth goalkeeper Will Dennis but face a battle with Celtic for his signature.

The January transfer window is just around the corner and we can expect to see Rangers make some signings.

A new left back could be a priority, but that may hinge on whether Ridvan Yilmaz moves on or not.

Another striker will surely be on the radar whilst we wouldn’t be against centre backs, central midfielders and right wingers being eyed up.

Another goalkeeper wasn’t really on our wish list but the Daily Record claim that Rangers are battling Celtic in the race for Kilmarnock stopper Will Dennis.

Will Dennis, the story so far

Dennis started out in the Luton Town ranks before then joining their bitter rivals Watford from under-9 to under-16 levels.

Watford let Dennis leave at 15 and he then did the rounds attempting to land contracts at various clubs.

Milton Keynes Dons, Coventry City and Stevenage all said no, but Bournemouth decided to offer him a deal.

Dennis has spent most of his time out on loan, featuring for English non-league clubs Guernsey, Weymouth, Wealdstone and Slough Town.

Now 23, Dennis is on loan at Kilmarnock for the season and has served as first-choice stopper under Derek McInnes.

Will Dennis, what they say

“Will is another talented young goalkeeper we have on our books. He is someone that’s improved rapidly since he has been with us under the guidance of Neil Moss and Anthony White. He’s a lovely size, very good shot stopper and a good kicker, so the future is bright for him.” – Ex-Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe, 2020.

“Their keeper must’ve got man-of-the-match for them. He made some world-class saves. I have to say, what a future that boy’s got. The way he conducted himself in goal, I’m never afraid to praise opposition players.”

“He was absolutely outstanding. I speak to Bournemouth quite a lot and the first thing I’ll be saying is: ‘What a keeper’. He deserves the credit. He was brilliant but I’m proud of how many chances we made,” – Bobby Wilkinson, Weymouth boss speaking after Dennis excelled for Slough Town, 2023.

Will Dennis to Rangers analysis

The only way we can make sense of this one is if Robby McCrorie is planning to move on in 2024.

Rangers already have a great first-choice goalkeeper in Jack Butland and McCrorie offers excellent, homegrown cover.

McCrorie is certainly good enough to start elsewhere and he may be minded to leave Rangers next summer.

That would leave Rangers needing competition for Butland and Dennis could be the man – especially as he enters the final stages of his Bournemouth contract.

We can’t see Rangers pushing for this one in January, but maybe Dennis is a name to keep tabs on for the summer.
