Why Sam Allardyce could yet destroy Rangers’ Jose Cifuentes hopes

When Rangers, Brighton and Leeds Utd were linked to Jose Cifuentes, you’d have been hard-pressed to find many who felt Sam Allardyce might play a pivotal role in the LAFC star’s future.

One of English football’s most iconic coaches, as the Premier League evolves there was a feeling that perhaps the 68-year-old manager would’ve served his top flight last after relegation with West Brom in 2021.

But as Leeds Utd toil and with their top flight status in the balance, step forward Sam Allardyce to save the day and – potentially – scupper any Rangers hopes of signing South American Jose Cifuentes.

The Elland Road side have appointed Sam Allardyce as their new manager until the end of the season with Leeds Utd currently in the middle of a relegation dogfight.

Whilst the club is outside of the relegation zone as things stand, only one point separates 16th to 19th and it’s all to play for heading into the final four games of the season.

If Leeds Utd can salvage their Premier League position for another season, it clearly boosts their chances of signing Jose Cifuentes, the LAFC midfielder hot property ahead of the summer.

Rangers have been linked with Cifuentes in the USA, whilst the likes of Brighton and Leeds Utd have also been reported as fellow suitors.

An Ecuadorean international, perhaps the Lilywhites could’ve used the player’s influence this season after going through Jesse Marsch and Javi Gracia already this campaign.

Sam Allardyce has now been tasked with guiding Leeds Utd through the challenge and it’s a final roll of the dice for a club who only regained their Premier League status from the 20/21 season.

Nothing is guaranteed in this game though, and with tough games to come against Man City (a), Newcastle Utd (h), West Ham (a) and Tottenham (h), it’s going to be one tall order.
