The Daily Record reports that Premier League newbies West Brom have joined Lille with interest in signing Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos.
There has been a lot of speculation around the Colombian international’s future in recent times and earlier this week, Sky Sports reported that the player had agreed personal terms with Ligue 1 side Lille.
It’s suggested that Lille will face stiff competition from West Brom, though.
The Baggies previously showed interest in Morelos and are now allegedly redoubling their efforts to bring him in as their number nine for their first season back in the Premier League.
It’s suggested that Lille are still in pole position but that El Bufalo is high on West Brom’s ‘wanted list’, so a rival bid is expected.
The chase for Rangers’ talisman appears to be hotting up on the eve of the new Scottish Premiership season.
Morelos is likely to lead the line at Pittodrie on Saturday morning but it would be a surprise if he was around for the entire campaign.
The Gers have valued their prized asset at £20m for some time but – especially in the current market – a £17m bid from Lille would certainly test the club’s resolve.
As for West Brom, it’s easy to see why they are interested. Slaven Bilic’s side earned automatic promotion to the Premier League but lacked an out and out goalscorer, with Charlie Austin topping their overall scoring charts with eleven.
Morelos allegedly expressed his desire to move to the English top-flight back in 2019 [Daily Record], so if the Baggies at least match Lille’s bid, they could still land the player.
