Rangers striker search is one that will be a fascinating watch this summer, however, Viktor Gyokeres won’t be heading to Ibrox.

The Coventry City striker has Luton Town in his sights as he looks to fire his side to the Premier League.

With 22 goals and 11 assists for the campaign, Viktor Gyokeres is a man in demand but a £25m valuation as reported by The Daily Mail rules Rangers out after recent speculation claimed that Michael Beale was a “huge” fan.

The time to sign the 24-year old was two seasons ago when he left Brighton for a similar fee to the one we paid for Alfredo Morelos.

The 13-times capped Sweden international might not have set the heather alight for the Seagulls, however, he has an excellent goal scoring record throughout his career.

In his 230 senior appearances, Rangers-linked Viktor Gyokeres has 230 appearances and 107 goal contributions but is now coming into his own.

Coventry’s valuation is another example as to why any story linking us with an under-contract striker in the Championship can almost be ignored.

A look at some of the strikers Rangers have been linked with and their reported valuations tells its own story.

Ross Stewart – £10m.

Joel Piroe – £20m.

Oli McBurnie – £20m.

Viktor Gyokeres – £25m.

Rangers fans will be lucky if Michael Beale is handed £5m to fill the most important role in his squad.

The man charged with scoring 30 goals a season.

Signing players who are out of contract might look like Rangers are scraping the barrel but it is the easiest way to bring quality players to the club.

Would Todd Cantwell have been in our price range if he wasn’t out of contract at the end of this season when he was at Norwich City?

Thank goodness for Jean-Marc Bosman because, without him, who knows what sort of quality we’d be seeing at Rangers given today’s prices down south.
