As Rangers prepare to head into the January transfer window, all the talk will surround who the Ibrox side look to sign under new manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
But at the same time, there are bodies in that squad who aren’t getting gametime this season and are likely to be shipped out under the Dutchman.

Here are three players that Rangers need to offload to free up the wage budget and allow Gio and his charges to go out and sign some top talent in January.
Jack Simpson
In a season where Rangers have been ravaged by injuries and defensive problems, it’s telling that Jack Simpson has been unable to break into the side.
The English defender was signed last January initially on loan after signing a pre-contract from Bournemouth and since then he has struggled to leave an impression on the team.

Playing more heavily in the last campaign, Simpson has been unable to break into a Rangers side who’ve seen Leon Balogun and Filip Helander both injured this season.
The fact natural left-back Calvin Bassey has been preferred in the centre says a lot and with a Championship trio linked in December, we expect him to move on.
Brandon Barker
Signed in 2019 when there were doubts surrounding Ryan Kent, Brandon Barker has rarely kicked on in his two-and-a-bit seasons at Ibrox.
And that’s not without the once highly-rated winger being given opportunities; Barker has had starts against the likes of FC Porto and Celtic in his Ibrox career.

In the summer much of the talk surrounding getting Barker out on loan and amid rumours of the winger being a high-earner there’s no chance he’ll sign a new deal before his current one expires this summer.
But in the meantime Rangers have a duty to try and offload the winger this January with Brandon Barker yet to play for the club this season.
Andy Firth
A cult hero to the Ibrox legions, plenty of Rangers fans might have the temptation to allow Andy Firth to run his contract down at the club.
After all, the goalkeeper’s contract expires come the end of the season and is particularly unlikely to be renewed after the exit of Steven Gerrard, who brought him to the club.

However, now Giovanni van Bronckhorst is in charge he may well be looking towards thinning out the squad with a view to making his own additions.
Andy Firth is unlikely to overtake Allan McGregor, Jon McLaughlin and Robby McCrorie in the goalkeeper stakes and the club may well look to free up their wage budget.
