As Rangers reportedly near the signing of Belgian midfielder Nicolas Raskin, a title omen surrounding the last Ibrox player from the country in Thomas Buffel is raising excitement.
The latest reports in the country are claiming that Rangers have agreed personal terms with out-of-contract Raskin, who has been banished to the Standard Liege reserves amid a contract stand-off.

But with six months to go on his deal Standard are expecting a fee with Rangers yet to submit an official offer and nerves jangling regarding a potential stand-off.
Nonetheless, signings are expected with Nicolas Raskin amongst them and the signing of the Belgium midfielder will immediately draw comparisons with a Rangers switch for Thomas Buffel in 2005.
But should the signing of Raskin have similar consequences as that deal for Thomas Buffel then we reckon it won’t take long for Nicolas to be immortalised at Ibrox.
Thomas Buffel omen as Rangers ready Nicolas Raskin move
Rangers reportedly paid £2.3m to sign Thomas Buffel from Feyenoord in 2005 and the talented midfielder would go on to enjoy three-and-a-half years at Ibrox.
But in his first six months at the club Rangers enjoyed a legendary league title turnaround against Celtic which culminated in the legendary Helicopter Sunday at Easter Road.
Yes, Thomas Buffel, who set up Nacho Novo’s winning goal for Rangers against Hibs, was signed in the winter window ahead of the greatest comeback triumph in Scottish footballing history.
With Celtic minutes from the title, a legendary Scott MacDonald Motherwell double downed the Parkhead side and sent the title to Rangers.
Whilst the nine point gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership appears insurmountable as things stand, anything is possible and Rangers will be hoping the signing of Thomas Buffel serves as a good omen ahead of the addition of Nicolas Raskin.
Meanwhile, a staunch defence has been launched of the man who slipped so far behind Celtic.
