Morgan Whittaker was linked with a move to Rangers in the January transfer window. Gers manager Michael Beale himself dropped a few hints, and the Swansea City attacker was reportedly keen on a transfer to Ibrox.

But it did not happen.

Whittaker is still at Swansea.

And, according to comments from his Swansea teammate Matt Grimes in The Glasgow Evening Times, the 22-year-old English winger has moved on.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter in January 2023, Rangers were in talks with Swansea over a move for Whittaker, who spent the first half of the season on loan at Plymouth Argyle.

The former Derby County youngster himself reportedly wanted to swap Swansea in the Championship in England for Scottish Premiership giants Rangers.

The Scottish Sun reported that Swansea wanted £2 million in transfer fees for Whittaker, but Rangers were willing to cough up £900,000.

The Daily Record have claimed that the Gers made more than one bid for the youngster.

But Swansea did not sell Whittaker, who, according to Grimes, found it tough in the January amid rumours but has now moved on.

Grimes said about Whittaker: “He was fantastic at Plymouth, I watched him a few times. He’s been fantastic and he’s come back eager and hungry to succeed.

“It was a real tough time for him. I’ve said to him that if he does what he did at Plymouth here then his name is being spoken about as a Championship proven player.”
