Stoke City fans are rejoicing after Rangers and Celtic linked striker Tyrese Campbell signed a new contract.
On Friday afternoon, a Sky Sports report asserted that after ‘extensive talks’ with both Old Firm clubs, the 20-year-old had decided against a move, and just hours later, the Potters announced that he’d penned a four-and-a-half-year contract.
The player’s stats this season are decent rather than spectacular, with five goals in 22 appearances in all competitions. Yet, given his age, it’s his potential that has people excited.
6ft and athletically built, the England youth international is only just finding his feet in the Championship, but the competition for his signature suggests there’s a belief he can become a top player.

“He’s an exciting young player with a great deal of potential and it would have been a real shame to see him develop and progress with another club,” Stoke manager, Michael O’Neill, told Stokecityfc.com.
“We’ve spoken at length and I’ve assured him he will continue to get opportunities in the first-team if he continues to perform at the level we all know he’s capable of.”
O’Neill was clearly delighted to hold onto Campbell and the news drew a mixture of surprise and delight from fans of the English club on social media.
