Former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is set to battle it out with ex-Ibrox midfielder Gennaro Gattuso for the Olympiakos manager’s job, according to reports.

According to Greek outlet Protatlitis, former Gers boss Gerrard is the Greek Super League side’s Plan B if a move for Gennaro Gattuso does not come to fruition.

Italian World Cup winner Gennaro Gattuso – who spent a year at Rangers in 1998 – has been out of a job since being sacked by La Liga side Valencia earlier in the season.

The claims come after ex-Rangers boss Steven Gerrard claimed that he’d turned down offers at club and international level since being sacked by Aston Villa, with Olympiakos an interesting proposition.

“You have to reset, wait and be patient for the fire and fight to return,” said Steven Gerrard.

“I’ve been offered opportunities to manage at club and international level since I left Villa, including an exciting opportunity in an overseas league, but none have been right for me at this time.

“In the meantime, I’m enjoying being an Uber driver for my girls and my little boy.”

The Steven Gerrard Olympiakos reports also come at interesting time for Rangers, who’ve been linked with one of the Greek side’s best players heading into the summer window.

Korean midfielder Hwang In-Beom has been tearing it up for the Athens club this season and Rangers have been extensively linked in the press.

But whilst Gers fans can dream of a move for the player, the latest reports have suggested that Olympiakos will demand around £13m for Rangers-linked Hwang In-Beom.

That said, it’s interesting to consider that either Gennaro Gattuso or Steven Gerrard could be the one negotiating a deal regarding the Olympiakos star if either of the pair secure the top job at the club.
