Steven Gerrard has provided a Rangers transfer update, as quoted by the club’s website.
The Gers are currently in exceptional form. They swept aside Celtic at Ibrox on Sunday, making it six wins in a row and four out of four since the SPL split.

However, it seems that won’t tempt the manager to rest on his laurels in terms of transfers.
There won’t be wholesale changes, but the club is primed for the window.
“I don’t think it will be like last summer”, said Gerrard, as
quoted by the club’s website. “Obviously we felt we needed big changes in different areas and we wanted to freshen it up with a lot of newness, because we felt it was broken and fractured in certain areas as a club.”
“As a feeling, there was a lot of negativity around, so that was the reason we made a lot of changes there.
“We feel as though we have a decent squad here and a good team, but to get to the next level now we feel it’s about having quality.
“At the moment we can only strike for the frees that are maybe out there, for the pre-contracts which we’ve done. When the window opens we want to go and strike for the areas of the pitch where we feel we need real quality to take us to the next level.”

Verdict

It would be easy to be lulled into a false sense of security by how well Rangers are playing right now.
However, poor spells during the season made it abundantly clear that there’s still work to be done in terms of the playing staff.
It’s exciting that the manager is using such positive language, here. He’s hoping to ‘strike’ next month. That suggests targets have already been identified, and the club intends to move quickly, once permitted, to secure priority signings.
Quality players like Davis, Defoe, and Kamara have made a big difference at Ibrox. It’s exciting that the club is in the market for more players of that ilk and if they can bring in reinforcements, they have a real shot at the title in 2019/20.
