No matter how much Rangers boss Steven Gerrard tells the press he has no interest in leaving Ibrox, it doesn’t stop links appearing across the footballing world.
As managers prove hard to come by across the continent one journalist is now claiming that Tottenham Hotspur could soon make interest in Steven Gerrard legitimate.
Admittedly a rather dubious source, Italian journalist Rudy Galetti claims that Gerrard is Spurs’ “surprise strike” amid links to Nuno Espirito Santo.
It’s not the first time Gerrard has been linked to Tottenham.
Give Me Sport claim the Ibrox hierarchy is “fearing” a Spurs move whilst the Telegraph named Gerrard on a shortlist back in April.
It’s an easy link to make; Gerrard is a young English coach, a ginormous sporting personality, he has been successful at Rangers and well, no-one appears to want the Spurs job.
But whilst the chattering continues, let’s just let Stevie G himself do the talking.
“I think I’ve learned with experience never to try predict the future,” said Rangers boss Gerrard [BT Sport].
“I’m happy in this job – I’m proud to be the Rangers manager.
“I’ve had to sacrifice a lot in the three years. Family issues is the big thing for me. The support I’ve had from my family has been fantastic, but I also have to respect them and where I’m from.
“In the short-term, the Rangers fans have got nothing to worry about.”
It’s not just Steven Gerrard either – a key member of the Rangers manager’s backroom staff was talking up the club’s return to training next week.
