Sheffield Wednesday fans have reacted with delight after their club secured the signing of former Rangers forward Josh Windass from Wigan Athletic.

It’s believed that the transfer fee will be passed on to Rangers, who were still owed money by cash-strapped Wigan for Windass’ £2.5m move away from Ibrox in 2018 [Scottish Sun].

The attacker was a divisive figure during his time in Glasgow, during which he scored 19 times and registered 13 assists in 73 appearances in all competitions.

His contributions in the final third were strong considering he rarely played as an out and out striker but many supporters believed he had a poor attitude and frequently criticised his work rate.

It seems the Sheffield Wednesday faithful have no such concerns, though.

Windass spent the second half of the 2019/20 season on loan at the Hillsborough Stadium and although he didn’t always start, he impressed the Owls supporters.

The Englishman’s three goals in nine outings was enough to convince Garry Monk to pursue a permanent deal and although there was interest from elsewhere, the player chose Wednesday.

The announcement of his signing prompted a big response from fans of the Yorkshire club on social media, the majority of which were extremely positive.

Windass could feature for his new club as early as Saturday, when they kick-off their 2020/21 campaign with a League Cup clash against Walsall.
