For Philippe Clement, given the size of the task facing him, nothing is entirely off the table when it comes to selling Rangers players.
Jack Butland should be included in those who could bring in money as a host of key players look set to leave Ibrox and free up money and space in the squad.
The manager has his work cut out with speculation surrounding Connor Goldson’s future at Rangers intensifying after an update on Heart and Hand confirming just how much the centre-half could bring in.

Connor Goldson could be heading out of Rangers
Speaking only a week ago, Clement explained that offers will be listened to for anyone but that they won’t be accepting all and any bids:
“If there is somebody coming with the right amount of money we will see, we will discuss. But you always need to see and then you need to replace somebody and you need enough money to replace them to make it better, otherwise it is also of no use. It is finding a balance in that way.
“I think there is only one player that is irreplaceable at the moment that I don’t think a team will pay the money that he is worth, for sure, and that is Jack Butland. Everybody knows what I think about that.”
Connor Goldson was seen flying out to Cyprus and despite initial doubts, it was confirmed that Aris Limassol would have the funds required to make a deal happen.
David Edgar, speaking on Heart and Hand’s Daily Update for the 24th of July, has added even more clarity:
“Now you may have seen Connor Goldson was in the squad and is with the squad for tonight’s match with Birmingham, but he had, of course, been out to Cyprus over the weekend for talks with Aris.
“The talks have not been concluded in terms of a deal has not been struck and he does have other offers as well with three clubs said to have made a serious approach for Connor Goldson.
“It’s not 100% confirmed but I think that Rangers are looking for around £1m given his age and his contract.”
Rangers right to make Connor Goldson decision
Birmingham City have also been credited with an interest and there has long been speculation that a move to Saudi Arabia could also be on the cards.
The fee might not seem like a lot of money, however, on a reported £37,000 per week, that is a lot of space on the wage bill freed up should he leave.
Goldson will be 32 this year and has suffered two long-term injuries in each of the last two seasons, he isn’t going to get any quicker any time soon.
Rangers have to start selling at the right time.
There is no point keeping him at the club if he isn’t going to play every week and be one of the highest earners.
Will he be playing against his new club tonight?
