Rangers are being backed to make a move for Kilmarnock wide man Danny Armstrong with Derek Ferguson branding him a ‘top player’.
Gers fans are now waiting for a second January signing to arrive with Nordsjaelland midfielder Mohamed Diomande on the verge of arriving.
Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Fabio Silva has already arrived this month and Diomande will make it two for Philippe Clement.
Rangers fans may still want more recruits before the window shuts though and one Scottish Premiership ace is now being backed for a move to Ibrox.
Derek Ferguson backs Kilmarnock’s Danny Armstrong for Rangers move
Former Rangers midfielder Derek Ferguson has told Open Goal that he thinks Kilmarnock ace Danny Armstrong would be a fine signing for the Gers.
Ferguson suggested that Armstrong could definitely ‘cut it’ at Rangers, calling him a ‘top player’ with some ‘devilment’ in his style of play.
Ferguson believes that Scottish clubs are looking abroad for signings too often and that Rangers should take a leaf out of Walter Smith’s book by going for a Scottish talent in the middle of the season.
Armstrong is the man Ferguson thinks could make the step up and potentially get even better by being around better players with a move to Rangers.
“I think, and it’s just me personally, I think he could cut it in a Rangers side. I think he’s got that in him. It’s clear to see that, in our game, he’s a top player. He’s got that wee bit of devilment about him,” said Ferguson. “You see that they’re starting to look further afield, you look at these guys from Argentina and foreign soils and we don’t know too much about them and we don’t know if they can maybe handle it and how long it might take to settle in. Our culture is a wee bit different, obviously the weather as well, but sometimes it’s staring you right in the face.”
“Walter used to do it at times, when he needed something midway through the season. He would go and source a player or two, a Scottish player. More often than not, when you’ve got somebody that’s doing pretty well, when they come in they are surrounded by better players, better quality and their quality will come through,” he added.

Armstrong was viewed as a top prospect at Hamilton Academical and moved to England with Wolverhampton Wanderers as a teenager.
That move didn’t really work out and Armstrong returned to Scotland with Raith Rovers, Ross County and then Raith Rovers again.
That last move saw Armstrong shine and Kilmarnock pounced in 2021, luring him to Rugby Park in a deal which now looks like a masterstroke.
The 26-year-old has dazzled this season, bagging five goals and 11 assists in all competitions.
A left-footed wide man who can play on either flank or even as a wing back, Armstrong is making a big impact for Kilmarnock with a direct style of play and plenty of crosses into the box.
Armstrong would certainly give Rangers another option out wide and his performances this season indicate that he may be ready for a step up.
A natural left-footer would be welcome in this Rangers squad for balance, and Armstrong’s versatility also means that Clement could use him in different roles.
Some Rangers fans may have bigger names in mind but a Scottish talent like Armstrong shouldn’t be ignored and we would be surprised if the Gers haven’t at least had a look in his direction this month.
