Scott McKenna and Lawrence Shankland to Rangers update as Ibrox hearts skip transfer beat

Rangers’ transfer activity is making fans tear their hair out as the new season approaches.

The Ibrox side are just a few days out from the Scottish Premiership kick-off v Hearts whilst the Champions League squad registration deadline is this coming Thursday.

After experienced centre-half Connor Goldson left the club, Rangers could be sitting on over £6m in transfer fees which fans expect to be reinvested into the team.

God knows, it needs it.

But any suggestion Rangers could move for two Scotland Euro 2024 stars could be shot down by a German manager down south and Old Firm rivals Celtic.

McKenna wanted down south

Centre-back is obviously an area of increasing concern as Rangers head into the new season.

Connor Goldson has been a rock at the back for the club and whilst Rangers fans reckon it was time the vice-captain moved on, his are sizeable boots to fill.

Aging Nigerian defender Leon Balogun, Scotland international John Souttar and ex-Liverpool defender Ben Davies are also all depressingly prone to injury issues.

Rangers fans want at least one solid, dependable and available defensive option to come into the side this summer and Scott McKenna is one name routinely linked.

Heart & Hand claim that Rangers have been offered the 27-year-old Scotland international centre-back following his release from Nottingham Forest at the end of last season.

Fans are certainly split on a move for the ex-Aberdeen star but McKenna could add experience and proven Premiership ability to the squad in the club’s time of need.

But Rangers could now miss out on a move for Scott McKenna as new Hull manager Tim Walter launches a surprise move.

According to the Telegraph, the ex-Hamburg boss is set to make an offer to bring McKenna to the English Championship.

Celtic to rival Rangers for Shankland?

Centre-back is not the only area of the Rangers squad in dire need of reinforcements this summer.

Nor is Scott McKenna the only Scotland international who is being strongly linked with a move to Rangers.

With Cyriel Dessers still having his doubters, Danilo only just returning from injury, and Hamza Igamane nowhere to be seen, Rangers’ frontline is under increasing scrutiny.

The Gers’ failure to land a reliable goalscorer in January arguably cost the club the title and Rangers fans are urging the team to invest in the position this summer.

One name doing the rounds – as it always does – is Hearts talisman Lawrence Shankland.

Similarly to McKenna, Shankland would bring a proven track record of success at Premiership level as well as goals in the Scottish top flight.

The Daily Record are insisting that Shankland is an active option for Rangers this summer with the club now boasting the funds to go and complete a deal.

But as Rangers wait over Philippe Clement’s approval, Old Firm rivals Celtic are said to be considering a bid.

According to HITC and journalist Graeme Bailey, Celtic are potentially set to hijack Rangers’ interest as their pursuit of Norwich City striker Adam Idah falters.
