Ex-Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield always said he had unfinished business at Falkirk.

Now the 36-year-old former Ibrox star will get to write a fairytale ending to his career at the club where it all began.

Falkirk have re-signed Scott Arfield 15 years on from when he left the Bairns in a stunning move which is likely to raise a smile this transfer deadline day.

And whilst there’s a sense of nostalgia to Arfield’s arrival in Falkirk, the ex-Rangers star insists he’s not just come back to the Falkirk Stadium to make up the numbers.

Indeed the ex-Rangers midfielder is hoping to break Scott Brown’s heart with Falkirk locked in a promotion battle against his old Celtic adversary’s Ayr United team.

Scott Arfield signs for Falkirk

“I’ve got really fond memories of my first time at the club,” Arfield told the Falkirk website.

”It was the first appearances of my career, and I was given my first opportunities to play.

“Coming back to Falkirk is something I’ve always had as a goal in football, in whatever circumstances I could help the club.

“I always thought that would be in the Premiership, but it’s an incredible challenge we’ve got, and what a reward there could be at the end of the season.

“This club should be in the Premiership, and our goal this season is to get up there.”

Ex-Rangers star returns to Scotland 18 months after Ibrox exit

Scott Arfield’s move to Falkirk means the midfielder is back in Scottish football 18 months on from leaving Rangers.

Arfield started his career with the Bairns before moving to Huddersfield Town and then on to Burnley where he made a name for himself in the English Premier League.

Eventually moving to Rangers under Steven Gerrard in 2018, Arfield spent five seasons at Ibrox, making 233 appearances for the club, scoring 43 goals and lifting the Premiership title in 2021.

An immensely popular player during his time at Rangers and someone still held in high esteem since leaving for Charlotte FC in 2023, everyone at Ibrox will be wishing Scotty all the best in Falkirk.

Who knows, maybe we’ll even see the midfielder in action at Ibrox if he can help get Falkirk promoted this campaign.

The Bairns are currently second in the Scottish Championship, with two points separating Ayr United, Falkirk and Livingston in 1st to 3rd.

Arfield had been playing with Bolton Wanderers in English League One prior to making the switch to Falkirk.
